About Your Session

Family Portraits

Following are some helpful tips to ensure you have a great experience with your photo shoot. If you have any questions beyond these, feel free to shoot me a message here!

How to prepare?

Make sure you don’t wait until the last minute! This is a super important time in your life!

• Do some searches on Pinterest for inspiration
• Send me photos via FB, Pinterest or text so that we can nail down the look of your session
• Let me know what some of your favorite locations are
• Be certain not to schedule your photoshoot around you child’s naptime or bedtime, and make sure your family is well fed before they come! When they’re full, they’re happy!

What to wear?

Have your outfits chosen way in advance and make sure that your outfit choices are comfortable and attractive!

Is your dream session soft and elegant?

• Choose neutral colors with soft, flowing fabrics! Think creams, very soft pastels, oatmeals, light browns, tans, grays, and slate blues

If you want to showcase your family fun and wild side…

• Choose coordinating colors (but not matchy matchy!) with bold accent colors!
• Adding fun accessories like hats, scarves, headbands, etc. can add a fun twist to your pictures!

“Say No” to the  following!

• Bright white doesn’t photograph well
• Shirts with logos or big pictures or prints
• Wild patterns distract from you
• Make sure outfits are free of wrinkles, stains, and rips/holes

What to bring?

• You and your wonderful family!
• Your outfits on hangers to prevent wrinkles
• Extra hair supplies (just in case!)
• Water bottle and snacks
• Mirror for last minute glances/touchups
• Fun toys for young ones to keep them entertained

The little details!

• Make sure you all have fresh/clean nails! Guys and girls!
• It’d be best not to try any new hairstyles the day before or day of your shoot. It’s suggested to give a new haircut at least a week before the photoshoot.
• Guys, make sure you’re shaved up, or bearded and ready to go!

Props to make sure your photos are unique with your own special touch!

Bring an activity that your family loves to do together!

• Do you love to read? Bring some books!
• Love ice cream? Bring ice cream cones, popsicles, or drumsticks!
• Love to play boardgames or cards? Bring your favorite family board game or card game!
• Other ideas include: football, piggyback rides, races, picnics, etc.!

Let me know if there are any other props that you would like to have in your photos!

I hope these tips have been helpful for you! If you haven’t already, reach out to schedule an appointment!
